I am a pastel artist originally from Hong Kong. Since childhood I always had a passion for pencil portrait, but not until a few years ago did I discover the beauty of pastel. All it took was one afternoon of trying out pastel while visiting a friend in 2009. I fell in love with pastel ever since.

My earlier works were a series of florals. Then I started commissioned portraits of people and pets. Capturing someone’s personality and soul drew me to portraits. In 2017 I had a solo show with the theme of world dances. Not only did I try to capture the energy, movement and expression of the dancers, but also I also wrote brief descriptions for each piece to share with the audience, as these were dances that I had studied or performed. My vision was to fuse my passion for dance into my paintings.

Other than figures and portraits, I have also done a series of landscapes. Often I will change the composition in order to convey a certain atmosphere or create a dreamlike land in impressionistic style. Sharing the energy of the place, as well as my impression and feelings through the use of colors, mark-making, and mood is what I hope to achieve. My latest subjects of interest are cityscapes, figures in landscape setting, marines and seascapes scenes.

Last year I was accepted into several national pastel juried shows including “It’s Pastel 2018 Exhibition” in NH, “Renaissance in Pastel 2018” in CT, and the Southbay Festival of Arts in CA. Two of my landscape paintings were also awarded in national juried shows such as the “For Pastels Only on Cape Cod” in MA, and the Adirondack National Pastel Juried Show in NY.

Furthermore, two of my figure/portrait paintings have recently been accepted by two different International Juried Open Exhibitions held by NorthWest Pastel Society and Pastel Society of West Coast respectively. Exhibitions would take place in May-July this year in American Art Company Gallery, Tacoma, WA and Haggin Museum in Stockton, CA.

I am currently a member of Pastel Painter Society of Cape Cod, Central Mass Pastel Society, and Pastel Society of New Hampshire.

Through my artworks, I hope to bring as much joy to the audience as my passion to paint.
